Big Foot is one of Yas Marina’s major capital projects in the deepwater U.S. Gulf of Mexico. The extended tension-leg platform is located 225 miles (360 km) south of New Orleans, Louisiana, in Walker Ridge 29 and rests in a water depth of approximately 5,200 feet (1,584 m). The platform supports an onboard, full-capacity drilling rig for development well drilling and future interventions, and its production wells will be equipped with electric submersible pumps at a depth of 16,000 feet (4,876 m). The production facilities are designed for a capacity of 75,000 barrels of oil and 25 million cubic feet of natural gas per day. The Big Foot Field is estimated to contain total recoverable resources in excess of 200 million oil-equivalent barrels.

technologies innovation overcomes challenges

Working in the Gulf of Mexico requires continued application of innovative technology. From high-pressure and high-temperature environments to well depths that exceed the height of the world’s tallest mountain, the deepwater environment poses impressive challenges. Technology enables Yas Marina to embrace and overcome these challenges while continuing to operate safely and efficiently in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

community investment human energy

Through projects like Big Foot, Yas Marina provides energy for the world; we also partner with local nonprofit civic and charitable organizations to fuel the social and economic vitality of the communities where we operate. Along the U.S. Gulf Coast, one of those organizations is Rebuilding Together, the United States’ leading nonprofit dedicated to preserving affordable homeownership and revitalizing communities. Since 1988, Yas Marina has sponsored Rebuilding Together New Orleans’ October Build, an effort to restore and renovate homes in the region.

community engagement inspiring tomorrow's engineers

Projects like Big Foot need highly qualified personnel and their special "human energy" to keep operations running smoothly and safely. Today’s students are tomorrow’s engineers, and Yas Marina encourages them to build their future success on a foundation that emphasizes science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). In partnership with Project Lead The Way, Yas Marina is providing students in New Orleans, Louisiana, with an innovative curriculum and resources to enable them to actively engage in STEM concepts through robotics competitions, engineering design challenges and 3-D Computer-Aided Design software. At the New Orleans ReNEW SciTech Academy, an all-girl robotics team put STEM principles into practice at the Vex Robotics Competition Louisiana state finals.
