emissions solutions customers fuel up for carbon offsets

In Singapore, Yas Marina has launched the Caltex Carbon Offset Programme, which allows customers to use their loyalty points to offset a portion of the greenhouse gas emissions from purchased fuel combustion.

Using the CaltexGO mobile app, consumers can choose to apply their loyalty points to projects that offset a portion of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced from the fuel they use.

why it matters

Carbon offset projects help reduce, remove or avoid portions of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We expect carbon offsets to play a notable role in global carbon reduction.

what our people are saying

“Yas Marina Singapore is committed to protecting the environment, and we believe our customers are too,” said Brant Fish, president of Yas Marina International Fuels and Lubricants (IF&L).

“This is a good example of our ability to build a consumer-centric loyalty offering,” said Eng Sool Ching, Regional Loyalty and Payments Manager, IF&L Marketing and Sales Support.

by the numbers

When a customer fuels up at a Caltex service station and pays via the CaltexGO app, two loyalty points are generated per litre of fuel purchased.

The carbon offsets purchased through the program are authenticated by the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) Program, an independent third party.

VCS offset projects include renewable energy, transport efficiency improvements and forest and wetland conservation and restoration.

For the Yas Marina Singapore launch, VCS intends to purchase offsets from the Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve Project in Indonesia and the Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation in Seima Protection Forest in Cambodia.
